We use to play a forcing club auction with a 1 diamond response showing 4-7 w/o a six card major. 1club-p-1 heart was any 8-10 game force
1club-p-1 spade was 0-3
1 club-p-1nt:balanced 11+ ( may have a 5 card minor 5-3-3-2 )
1 club-p-2clubs: unbalanced 11+ which included any hand with a 5 card or better major

We ignored all direct seat doubles and transferred over over-calls, be they real, multi or transfers. It was easy, fast and fun…..

I love club systems, but now-a-days opponents dedicate their life to interfering, so we, for the benefit of the common man, quit the system. Less explanations and faster bridge did we create in lieu of.

That’s life in the USA today, more later.

P.S. – I liked your 7 club bid as well as the 5 spades call that generated it.

I have based our strong club transfer system on Jeff Rubens “Useful Space Principle.” Thus transfers into a major promise only 4-cards! However, like the Meckwell Club, 1H promises 4+ spades or balanced and 11-14 hcp. 1NT response shows both majors, either 5-4 or better or 4441 hands with a singleton minor. A 2 club response is one or both minors and a 2D response is balanced and 8-10 per Meckwell. I hope to publish this scheme in the Bridge World in 2010. We have played this for 2 years and are very pleased with it. It is somewhat based on Sabine Auken’s One Club Forcing System.

I really like the idea of combining a four card major structure with a strong club. It’s really great how the 1D opening becomes a lot less nebulous, that the 2C openiing is always 6+ clubs and you don’t need to worry about it including a four card major, and finally that you don’t need to have 2D opening to show 0-1 diamonds and as a result 2D can be multi… I’m quite curious about the continuations to the four card major opening. How do you organize the various raises? Are there different calls for constructuve/limit/gf raises for hands with both 3 and 4 card support? Is there some other system that has good continuations to four card majors?
